Psychologists

About

Taken from the Australian Psychological Society, “a psychologist is a professional trained in the science of how people think, feel, behave and learn.” The role of a psychologist varies greatly according to the role they are employed in. In relation to the role of Psychologists at Stepping Stones, psychologists, “support children and young people to achieve academic success, psychological health and social and emotional wellbeing.” This also includes often working with the caregiver system to support the child in a holistic way.

Psychologists must complete a minimum of 6 years in both undergraduate degree training and supervised experience, to work under this title. Psychologists employed at Stepping Stones also require to be registered members of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA - which ensures that they uphold their code of ethics and demonstrate continued learning in the area), and be approved to work according to Medicare and Private Health standards. Finally, all staff are required to obtain Criminal History clearances and Working with Children checks.
